Russia
Russian Muslims sat down in a line for a meal after prayers on the first day of Ramadan in a local mosque in Moscow.
People’s Republic of China
Ethnic Uyghur men prayed at a mosque during Ramadan in Kashgar city, in Xinjiang province on Thursday.
Xinjiang region is an autonomous region of the People’s Republic of China where many Muslim Uyghur resent the presence of Han Chinese people. The biggest threat to China’s grip on its ethnically divided far western frontier comes from homegrown anger exploding in violence.
France
Muslims prayed to mark the start of the holy fasting month of Ramadan at ‘La Grande Mosquee’ in Strasbourg, eastern France on Monday. Faithfuls gathered at the end of the first day of the Ramadan, at the mosque still under construction, which will be officially inaugurated in November.
