Gratitude is a State of Mind

Everyday when we wake up we cannot control what happens to us or what comes our way, but we can control how we react to it. We can be grateful for the good and patient with the bad, or the opposite. Gratitude is essentially a state of mind where one reminds themselves to focus on the positive even when things are not going as we wish.

The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

“How wonderful is the case of a Believer! There is good for him in whatever happens to him -and no one other than him enjoys this blessing. If he receives some good he is grateful to Allah and this is good for him. And if some adversity befalls him, he is patient, and this affliction, too, brings good to him”

(Muslim).
